Keeping up with the 'Mendes's - Alwyn & Co. is always a challenge'.

Mr. Cool - Alwyn Mendes - Toronto Canada

Dear Zanzibaris & friends & relatives of Alwyn Mendes & Co

As we all know the famous Mendes family going back to our good old days in Zanzibar, and if I can mention, the late Pop Mendes, brings back many happy memories of our days on Paradise Island Zanzibar where the Mendes's played an active role in all walks of life from sporting activities, music, Pop and his big band 'The Merry Wobblers', organising picnics, parties and dances, and not forgetting Pop & Artie teaching ballroom dancing.

When the Mendes's moved to Canada, social activities continued in full flight and it was Pop and the Mendes family who carried on promoting great social functions enjoyed by unlimited folks in Toronto Canada and worldwide, and to me I will never ever forget the first grand Tanzanite dinner dance organised by Pop which still remains in my mind as the very best  to date where high standards were set in professional entertainment. Must also mention, following the grand Tanzanite dinner dance on a Saturday, Pop & Co hosted a Sunday Hop organised for all Zanzibar folks. Sweet memories live forever.

All told, I am lucky to still be in touch with the Mendes's. Alwyn needs no introduction, and though much younger, our friendship has always been special sharing our love for music where Alwyn enjoys singing and playing his guitar as much as I do.

As a token of friendship I am sharing some lovely photographs of Alwyn's family I managed to capture. (I have not got official permission to post this blog spot titled alwynmendes but as Alwyn has always said in the past, I am free to post whatever I like as far as he and his family is concerned, I have taken this opportunity to share some lovely family photographs).

Wishing Alwyn and his enterprising family all the very best in the future with my special mesage 'KEEP MUSIC LIVE' and keep the social activities flowing.

  2. Hi Alwyn,

If I start collecting all postings of you and the MENDES's, it will go on for miles going back to our great days in Zanzibar with focus on the Late Pop Mendes who was in the forefront on the social and sports scene besides being a great musician with his own band and of course a great sportsman. I have millions of photographs all of Zanzibar and hopefully before I hit the bucket, I will try and release them all. Best regards Benny
